AMERICORPS VISTA
Lifting People Out of Poverty Since 1965
VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program that works to eliminate poverty. VISTA volunteers build capacity at nonprofit organizations and public agencies throughout the country to enable people and communities to become more self-sufficient and secure. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve full time for one-year terms. VISTA is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

BENEFITS
LIVING ALLOWANCE
Receive about $1,000 a month to cover basic expenses, disbursed biweekly.
HEALTHCARE
If you have coverage, get reimbursed for out of pocket expenses through the VISTA Health Allowance. For limited coverage for accidents and injuries, enroll in the VISTA Health Benefit Plan.
EDUCATION AWARD/STIPEND
Upon successful completion of service, choose between a Segal Education Award (valued at approximately $6,000) to pay for a range of education expenses or a $1,800 cash stipend.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Attend in person and virtual training where you learn how to be a community development change agent.
LOAN DEFERMENT
VISTA provides several benefits that can help you manage, or even reduce, your federal student loans, and offers others that can lower your overall student debt.
RELOCATION ALLOWANCE
If eligible, received an allowance to offset the cost of travelling to your site, calculated based on mileage.
NON-COMPETITIVE ELIGIBILITY
AmeriCorps VISTA is the only AmeriCorps program where you can earn federal non-competitive eligibility, giving you an edge in the federal hiring process.
OUTSIDE EMPLOYMENT/EDUCATION
VISTA allows outside employment and attending class outside of service, as long as these activities do not interfere with your position.
