ABOUT
The Tribal VISTA Project is an initiative of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium. With funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service, we place 12-16 AmeriCorps VISTAs (Volunteers in Service to America) with tribal organizations across the country. Our VISTA assignments help these institutions build capacity in three areas: education, environmental stewardship, and health.
VISTAs serve full-time for one year, working on capacity-building projects at their sites. They support tribal initiatives ranging from climate resilience workshops to native food classes and community mental health programs. Along the way, our members gain valuable skills and have access to professional development opportunities. Depending on the project, VISTA responsibilities can include:
Natural Resource Planning
Program Development and Implementation
Curriculum Development
Education and Training Assistance (Workshops, Technical Assistance)
Grant Writing and Research
Volunteer/ Intern Recruitment and Coordination
Partnership Building
Community Needs Assessments
